John Geering's Puss an' Boots





John Geering and Morris Heggie's Puss an' Boots is, quite simply, one of the funniest comic strips of all time, as this example from the 1980 Sparky annual amply demonstrates. Rooted equally in the destructive black comedy anarchy of the Goon Show and in the robust seventies surrealism of the Goodies, Puss an' Boots' campaign of idiosyncratic ultra-violence would have been right at home in Nutty - but what did that comic's readers get instead? Bloody Bananaman. There's no justice...
